New Wallpaper Designs For 2020
Last week I focused on if you can use wallpaper in a bathroom. This week, I thought it would be good to take a look at the new wallpaper designs that have been released so far for 2020. Both Cole & Son and Emma J Shipley recently launched their new wallpaper collections at London Design Week, while Little Greene and Poodle & Blonde released new wallpapers in January.
As many of us are isolating at home right now with the COVID-19 outbreak, you could argue that if there was ever the time and opportunity to get a new wallpaper up on the wall, then this is it! So, here are a selection of papers from each of the aforementioned collections, just in case you fancy getting the pasting table out.
Little Greene - National Trust Papers
Little Greene has released a new collection of wallpapers based on original designs from the National Trust’s property portfolio. There are 7 new designs in total across 40 colourways.
The best two patterns in the collection are Belton Scenic : an Eastern garden party scene, and Achillea : a border design of silhouetted stems and flowerheads. The wide range of colour options means you can make a statement with bold yellows or blues, or have these beautifully detailed prints in more subtle tones of shaded whites and taupes.
Cole & Son - Seville
I am a huge fan of Cole & Son wallpapers - their Hummingbirds wallpaper being an all-time favourite of mine and currently hanging in my bathroom. I also fell in love with their botanical range of wallpapers launched two years ago. This year at London Design Week, Cole & Son launched Seville, a dedication to the region of southern Spain.
In this new collection you’ll find graphic architectural prints in sun-drenched antique palettes, to vibrant botanicals and primary-toned ceramic tile motifs. The stand-out paper in the collection is Alfaro - a tribute to the Plaza Alfaro residence in Seville - said to have inspired the iconic balcony scene in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet:
With oranges being synonymous with Seville, Cole & Son’s Orange Blossom paper has a repeat orange tree pattern, as leaves, flowers and fruits feature heavily throughout the collection.
My favourite print from the collection are these trumpet flowers in a pink and blue colourway, which have a more vintage - rather than overtly feminine - floral pattern:
Emma J Shipley - Wilderie
Fun, colourful and full of intricate details of wild creatures, Emma J Shipley releases her Wildere collection in collaboration with Clarke & Clarke this month. Her wallpaper designs are perfect for a young girl’s bedroom as while the designs feel youthful, they are not overtly ‘girly’.
Poodle & Blonde - Pavilion collection
If you are looking for something really fun, look no further than Poodle & Blonde who have recently released these Poodle wallpapers as part of their Pavilion Collection. Margate-based Poodle & Blonde sell home/lifestyle accessories - as well as fabrics and wallpapers - with a ’70s influenced, sophisticated kitsch. Do also check out their Food Babies wallpaper - an elegant design depicting a stork delivering take-away food!
