Decorating my bedroom with Farrow & Ball Wallpaper
According to the interior mags and those 'in-the-know', minimalism is out for 2018 and maximalism - vibrant colours, patterns and a 'more is more' approach - is in. Being much more on the maximalism side than minimalist, I was pleased to hear this as I have just finished decorating my bedroom in Farrow & Ball's new Hegemone wallpaper, and giving my bed a fresh new update in beautiful, luxurious Yves Delorme bed linen.
And before you say 'Didn't you just redecorate your bedroom a few months ago?' Yes, I did redecorate it last Autumn but then we had a bit of a house disaster. If you remember before the Revamp Restyle Reveal update, one of the reasons I decorated this room was the giant damp patch on one wall. I smugly thought this was resolved, but then there came winter and rain, and boy - did that damp patch come back with a vengeance!
I got the damp problem resolved properly, but the damage was done. I decided to hide all the sins rather than re-paint, choosing to wallpaper the entire room. Luckily enough I'd fallen in love with my dream wallpaper a few months earlier. While creating a mood board for Farrow and Ball's AW17 pamphlet, I'd been exposed to their new wallpaper print Hegemone BP 5706 in a blue colourway (yes, I'm slowly and surely turning my whole house blue!) and I loved it. Its floral pattern reminded me of wisteria as it twists and turns up the roll, and thus, up the wall. It had a fresh, positive feeling about it and did I mention it's blue? Dark blue and light blue - perfection! I papered every wall in the room in it including covering up the cupboard which contains the water tank, making that cupboard look non-existent as it is hidden within the floral pattern.
The other change that I made to the room was to invest in good quality, luxurious fresh bed linen for the new year ahead. I think bed linen can be one of those things that we don't change for a long period of time, but you know how amazing freshly washed bed linen feels? Well how about brand new bed linen? This bed linen here is by Yves Delorme and is the softest bed linen I've ever slept in. The pillow cases and duvet cover pictured are the Athena collection in 'Honey'. Crisp white bed linen always looks fresh and reminds me of top class hotels. These sheets are Egyptian combed cotton in 500 thread/Iinch² percale. The delicate striped edging along the side and in the corners gives it a classic, elegant look - a design that is so complementary to plain linen.
To layer up the bed, I've also added a bed throw and matching cushion from the Bouquets range by Yves Delorme. Both 100% printed silk with celadon piped finish, I fell in love with the vibrant floral design on a dark blue background - which is exactly what I liked about the wallpaper!
If you purchase Yves Delorme linen at their Walton Street store then they will also be able to monogram your linen for you - check out my 'ML' couture pillowcase above!
To match the wallpaper I painted the built in wardrobes in Oval Room Blue also by Farrow & Ball. This isn't a blue featured in the wallpaper (this wallpaper is made up of Stiffkey Blue, Dix Blue and Old White) but it still complements the paper. I used to have the front door of my old house painted Oval Room Blue and I missed the colour in my home.
I've also added in these String furniture shelves in a mustard as yellow and blue work so well together. I replaced the old white lampshade on the floor lamp for a teal number (a total steal from Dunelm for £12!). I recovered my old pink DIY end-of-bed bench in a mink coloured fabric from Clarke + Clarke, plus I gave my old dressing table a lick of soft grey to fit in with the scheme better.
I absolutely love my new maximalist bedroom! The gold Perch & Parrow bedside lamps really stand out against the wallpaper, while my blue Maison Du Monde bedroom chair and velvet stool look lovely with the 'blue on blue'.
