A couple of months back, I was lucky enough to be invited to visit the Little Greene Paint Company’s factory in Wales for the first preview of their new Capsule collection ‘Sweet Treats’: nine new paint colours inspired by the delectable tones of the world’s finest desserts. These caramel brown, soft sugar pink and honey-toned hues (aptly titled names such as ‘Madeleine’, ‘Muscovado’ and ‘Ganache’) encapsulated the move towards warmer, richer neutrals in our homes, as paint trends have evolved from the previously popular greys, warm whites and stone shades.

Warm and comforting, this palette of nine new shades has launched at the time of the year when we are craving cosy, restful interiors. What’s good about Sweet Treats is that these soothing colours work well in a multitude of homes - from traditional, townhouse buildings to smaller country cottages. Little Greene worked alongside the National Trust to refine each dessert-inspired colour, with each shade ultimately being recreated from historic walls, woodwork and furnishings found in a number of the National Trust buildings. Ruth Mottershead, Creative Director, comments, “Earthy shades - particularly browns - have historically been used for their practicality and are often dismissed as being dated or dull. However, rich warm colours based on umber and ochre deliver cocooning, restful and charming spaces. Deeper, richer caramels are perfect for creating enticing and sumptuous rooms, whilst soft golds provide comfort and reflect the desire to create warmth within our homes.”

It’s the warm and sophisticated pink tones of ‘Mochi’ that anticipate it to be the hero shade and the most popular colour from Sweet Treats. Originally located on the walls in the dining room of Calke Abbey in Derbyshire, ‘Mochi’ feels more of an accessible choice for walls and pairs perfectly with the other eight tones that could be used elsewhere in the room (such as on the furniture or the woodwork).
