Why Colourful Internal Window Wall Dividers Are My Current Interior Crush

I’ve noticed recently that most images I save in my ‘favourites’ folder on Instagram or Pin on Pinterest have a concurrent theme: they all contain internal partition windows or door walls constructed from glass; framed in strong colours to divide and zone rooms within the home.

A great way to break up open-plan living without losing any access to free-flowing light, what I love most about these colour room-dividing windows is how they command attention and act as the main feature within a space. A room with all the walls painted a deep gloss cherry red may be too overbearing for most, but an internal glass partition window painted in this shade oozes style and sophistication as it is assigned to one area, framing the view that it leads onto. Additionally, these windows can help to regulate indoor temperatures after upgrading, enhancing comfort in your home.

While I adore the use of strong, bold colours, I always feel nervous about taking it ‘too far’ and allowing a room to fall into the category of ‘messy maximalism. Instead, I adore the balance of strong shades with neutral tones; applying colours on internal doors and windows feels like the perfect solution when using bold colours within the home. If strong colours are too much for you, veneered oak doors offer a more organic, natural solution.

While you can install colourful frameless doors as part of a renovation project, many older homes come with existing window wall dividers and an inexpensive way to make them a real feature is to paint them in a strong hue of your choice. It’s also a great way to add colour in smaller homes where you might feel that overtly strong tones used on the walls might darken smaller spaces.

In terms of what colours look best on internal window and door room dividers, anything goes. However, I am personally a fan of a deep red, bright blue or mustard yellow.

If you decide to paint any existing glass window partition walls, remember to invest in a glass scraper to remove excess paint so your internal views are not interrupted by paint splashes and freehand paint marks.
