Influential Interior & Home Decor Trends You Can Expect To See In 2023
Pinterest has revealed the top interior design and home decor trends it expects to see exploding for 2023; seeing as last year the ideas and inspiration search engine predicted chequerboard pattern (which was huge in interiors in 2022) and curves (round and wavy shapes are going nowhere) correctly, their trend predictions are worth noting if you are interested in forthcoming popular paint colours, the latest modern furniture design and soon-to-be favoured home accessories. So, what can we expect to see a lot more of on Instagram and in the shops in 2023? Keep reading to find out…

The Key Colour For 2023: Burnt Orange / Terracotta
According to Pinterest, we will see this colour grouping everywhere this year. Tones of rusty orange, terracotta and burnt sienna are expected to be the key strong colours to replace the previously popular shades of emerald green or dark navy blue. Home Spa Bathrooms
Pinterest has seen a 190% increase in the search term ‘home spa bathroom’; with the cost of living crisis in full swing, it’s no surprise that enjoyable but non-essential luxuries such as spa breaks may be taking a back seat as people try to recreate the experience at home instead. Invest in a bath board to place down a drink and a good book while in the tub, while new soft white towels and a good-quality scented spa candle will emulate that relaxing, zen spa experience.
Walk-In, Doorless Showers
The search for ‘amazing showers walk-in’ is up 395% on Pinterest, with ‘doorless shower ideas’ up 110%. Eradicating baths (which take up a lot of square footage) and room-dividing doors creates the illusion of more space and the best example of this I saw towards the end of last year was by Jacqueline Mercer (owner of the inspirational Instagram account @tinyandthehouse), who designed an amazing green and white chequerboard doorless walk-in shower in her new loft extension:
Dividing one end of their converted loft between an open shower and sink/toilet area, Jacqueline tiled the enclosure in glazed green and white square tiles from Original Style. The floor is made up of smaller mosaics in white to keep the space light and let the wall tiles sing.
To combine a spa-like bathroom with open, doorless showering, it’s a good idea to opt for a rainwater shower head alongside interesting, textured tiles to create a luxurious and stylish showering experience.
Focus On: Doing Up Our Frontage
The year Pinterest predicts that many of us will focus on our frontage, painting our doors and sprucing up our front gardens to make them look their best. The search for ‘front door transformations’ is up 85% and there are a number of budget-friendly DIYs that can be done to our exterior doors to make a big impact.
First of all, a fresh coat of paint in a vibrant, happy colour will make your home stand out and it will give you joy every time you return home. For my DIY guide to painting an exterior door, click here.
If your front door contains glass, consider adding bespoke, decorative window film for a quick and easy transformation that will also give you a bit more privacy. Check out Blossom & Brush who do the most wonderful made-to-measure films (they can even incorporate your house number into the design).
Polishing up or replacing your hardware is a game-changer for a front door. If your door hardware just needs a shine, remove it and apply some brass restorer before drying and screwing it back in. If you want to buy new, Gipsy Hill Hardware sells a wide range of individual polished brass designs.
If you have a porch, why not personalise it and make it as much of a reflection of your style as your interior? Hayley Stuart transformed her front porch using an attractive mustard paint colour (Dijon by Rust-Oleum) on the door and floor tiles from her own collection with Maitland & Poate. She also added two reclaimed wood shelves for decorative accessories and hung artwork to create a personal and inviting entrance to her home.
Mushroom Decor & Accessories
I’m not going to lie - I did not see this one coming! While the vintage Murano mushroom lamps have been having a bit of a resurgence, I did not expect mushrooms to be the forthcoming emblem of choice for home accessories! ‘Mushroom art’, ‘vintage mushroom design’ and ‘DIY mushroom decor’ are all key search terms according to Pinterest, so expect to see some fungi appreciation in the year ahead.

Mixing Modern & Vintage
If mushrooms were a surprising trend, then the continued love of mixing antique with modern furniture is not. A budget-friendly and sustainable way to dress your home, the search term is up a whopping 530%, with ‘antique room aesthetic’ up 325%. Great antique finds can be located on eBay, Facebook Marketplace and your local furniture refuse warehouses.
