Designing A Calm And Serene Bedroom

A few years ago when maximalism was the big interior trend, I papered all the walls of our master bedroom in a heavily-patterned, floral blue wallpaper. To accompany it, I painted everything else in the room a deep blue to match. While I loved this look for a while (and I still love the wallpaper design), I quickly yearned for a much more calming space to wind down, read, sleep and get dressed in. The room gets a lot of light with two windows in it, yet the deep shade of blue sucked that beautiful morning light away. The jazzy wallpaper pattern didn’t feel soothing or resting and didn’t provide the blank canvas required when choosing what to wear for the day (all the colour and pattern of my clothes intermixed with the wallpaper and the blue, making everything clash).

We are over halfway through the year and summer is in full swing. What I have really enjoyed this year is packing up a picnic basket and putting it in the boot of the car, collecting my son after school and driving with the dog to local, scenic picnic spots to enjoy the warm, late summer afternoons outside together. I have been working with home and garden retailer Grand Illusions for the past few months and I was really excited when I saw their summer collection which includes hand-blown recycled green glass tumblers, on-trend bamboo tealight holders and earthy bowls with detailed floral patterns. All these pieces are perfect to use for stylish summer picnics or casual summer dining, so I snapped a few bits up to share with you here on the blog.

The Celeste design has a casual blue floral pattern on a white background, while the Florido bowls are a deep, inky blue base with a white floral pattern. Even though they look like they cannot go in the dishwasher, they are all dishwasher safe (as washing up is the last thing you want to be doing on a warm summers day!)

The woven shopping bag below is not a new product, in fact, I’ve owned this from Grand Illusions for a while, but I’ve been using it all summer. It’s completely lightweight, but the boned structure of it means that it better supports picnic items than a tote bag. I chose this Paris shopper in yellow because I’m all about colour, but you can also get it in beige and black.

Using Treron, One Of The New 9 Farrow & Ball Colours, In My Home.

In September this year the esteemed paint manufacturer Farrow & Ball released 9 brand new colours to take their palette up to 132 hues. Without looking like I am very late to the party, I held off writing about the colours until they had been used in abundance in ‘real homes’. The thing is with Farrow & Ball press images is they are just so good. They hire the best stylists and produce the most amazing pictures, they could probably rub a dog turd on the wall and it would look like a desirable colour to paint your guest bedroom in. What I really wanted to see was how the colours would look in different types of homes and in different settings. Plus, when I received the press pack (which included sample tins of the 9 new shades) there was one colour in particular, Treron, which I flagged for use on the tongue and groove in my bathroom.

How To Choose A Modern And Contemporary Neutral-Coloured Carpet

I definitely think we have moved away from being scared of bold, patterned wallpaper. As the dedicated House Of Hackney devotees flood Instagram with their wallpaper statements, it is now seen as something much more on-trend and desirable than something we associate with 'granny's house'. I don't think the same can be said about carpet. A heavily patterned, bold carpet choice is still something we flinch at and attach to a comedic period in interior-trend history, like avocado-coloured bathroom suites.
