If you are planning on remodelling your bathroom or small shower room, get inspiration from the latest bathroom design ideas and the biggest bathroom trends expected to be big in 2024. I’ve picked out the seven key looks that I think will dominate bathroom design and decor this year, from popular finishes and materials to the latest must-have bathroom accessories.

Texture

2024 will see a lot more texture within bathroom interiors as it adds so much interest and detail. Fluted furniture has been popular for some time and that will now be carried over into the woodwork of vanity units and as part of the design of fixtures and fittings. Small, raised tiles that catch the light to accentuate their surface shape for subtle appeal will be preferred over bold patterned tiles, while textured plasterwork or washed walls will be selected over flat, matt paintwork.

Considered Lighting

Gone are the days of simple bathroom spotlights or a central pendant. Instead, bathroom lighting in 2024 is to be stylish and considered. It used to be quite hard to source design-led lighting with an IP rating suitable for use in a bathroom, but due to demand this has now changed and there is a wider choice of lighting available for use in steamy, wet areas of the home. Wall lights in bathrooms in particular have increased in popularity, as have portable lamps positioned on shelving or cabinets to give a soft, atmospheric glow.

Unexpected Accessories

Much like the trend for an ‘unkitcheney kitchen’, the aim is now to make the bathroom less of a sterile space and more in line with the rest of the home. For 2024, art hung in the bathroom is a big trend. Rather than bare walls, hang inexpensive vintage pieces or prints to make your bathroom more welcoming. Organic-shaped wooden stools as a styling prop to place towels or position handwash are also having a moment, as the natural wood brings softness to an otherwise sanitary area.

Natural detailing over patterns

The huge trend for bold lily pad tiles in a bathroom is over and instead, strong natural detailing (such as heavy veining in marble or marble-effect tiles) is in. Patterns via natural materials are currently desired as they create an unrefined allure over strong colours or geometric shapes.

Curves and arches

Curves and arches in bathrooms will be everywhere in 2024 as we embrace these softer shapes within our bathroom interior. Get the look with rounded shower enclosures and by hanging arched-shaped mirrors.

Chrome

According to Pinterest’s trend forecast, Chrome will be the popular metal in 2024. Expect to see it a lot more in bathrooms over recent favourites of brushed brass or black, as trend-led 2024 bathroom schemes will contain chrome taps, shower heads and bath feet.

High-End at Home

As the cost of living continues to tighten, visits to spas or high-end hotels are being swapped for replicating the look at home. Bathrooms adorned with wallpaper, art-deco mirrors and luxury-look lighting are now being favoured over more plain, simpler bathroom design schemes.
