How To Make A Pretty Floral Pumpkin Display For Halloween
I’ve never really been the sort of person who loves gothic decor - I’m definitely someone who prefers things to be pretty! So, for Halloween this year, I decided to make a floral pumpkin display bursting full of autumnal blooms! These floral pumpkins make a great table centrepiece, while they could also work well displayed in a porch or on top of the fireplace mantel.
For this floral pumpkin vase display you will need:
1 carved medium-sized pumpkin
A selection of autumnal flowers (I used a mix of dahlias, Chinese lanterns, small roses, twigs and eucalyptus)
A jug of water
I had a bit of a brainstorm on what would be the best way to keep the flowers fresh inside of the pumpkin and stumbled upon some cheap and reusable ikebana-style memorial grave pots at the floral wholesaler. These hold water securely but also provide flower stem support with the lid. You can buy these pots online or try your local floral wholesaler (if you don’t have one near you, pop into a florist and they might sell you one from their stock).
Before you carve your pumpkin, make sure that you cut enough off the top to fit your memorial vase inside by drawing around the lid. Once you’ve scooped out the innards, fill your memorial vase with water, secure the lid and then pop it into the centre of the pumpkin.
Cut down the stem of each of your flowers and remove any leaves so that the flower heads just pop out of the top of the pumpkin and the stems slide into the vase holes easily. Place each stem individually and keep going until you are happy with your display.
At the end, gently balance the cut-off top of your pumpkin around the back of the blooms.
And that’s it! You’ll now have a super simple - yet pretty - pumpkin display ready for Halloween.
