New Fabric & Wallpaper Collections For 2021
There has been a flurry of new fabric and wallpaper collections released in the past month. If you are looking for something fresh and new to update that spare room, or to breathe new life into an old chair, you might be interested in the following…
Momentum by Harlequin
A mix of metallics, shapes and contemporary patterns, the stand out design from the new Momentum collection by Harlequin is Transverse - similar to their popular Sumi design from a few years earlier. The colour palette is a mix of on-trend browns, creams, blacks and taupes in chevrons, jagged lines and raised squiggles. If you have a reupholstery project or are looking to sew a statement bed bolster cushion, then this is a great collection to check out.
Black Edition: Zafaro, Nuala & Ikulu.
The three new collections from Black Edition (part of the Romo Group) have been categorised by the brand as encompassing ‘Modern Maximalism’. The word ‘maximalism’ (often associated with having lots of ‘stuff’ in one room) has been reclaimed as a contemporary concept to describe Black Edition’s new range of woven textured surfaces and intricately layered weaves. From thick, tactile wallcoverings that you want to touch, to warm layers of bouclé and knitted ribbon yarns, you can find my top picks from Zararo, Nuala and Ikulu, below:
Mairi Helena: Hidden Garden
Independent, Edinburgh-based textile artist Mairi Helena produces the most beautiful wallpaper and luxury fabrics inspired by the Scottish landscape. Her latest wallpaper design - Hidden Garden - was influenced by her local botanic space, where she spent most of her time with her newborn during the summer lockdown of 2020. I absolutely love this design and I really want to use it in my own home at some point!
Villa Nova: Still Life
Another brand under the Romo Group umbrella, Villa Nova’s new Still Life collection is an artistic range of prints and weaves that highlight the beauty in the every day and the ‘slowing down’ that we have all recently encountered in lockdown. Within the fabric and wallpaper collection, you’ll find painterly forms and sketches influenced by simple objects such as glass jars, flowers and foliage.
Prestigious Textiles
There are quite a few new collections available from Prestigious Textiles for spring/summer 2021, but it is the range of children’s wallpaper in the collection Big Adventure that is the highlight. From safari prints to woodland scenes, the prints are interesting without being too vivid. Plus, all designs are perfectly gender-neutral.
