6 simple ideas to make your bathroom feel inviting and relaxing

The demand for relaxing, spa-like bathroom spaces has consistently increased over the past few years as people cut back on non-essential luxuries and try to recreate the experience at home instead. Having your own sanctuary where you can relax in a serene retreat away from life’s daily hustle and bustle can significantly improve your ability to wind down. However, you don’t need to splash out on overhead rain showers or a home sauna to emulate a spa experience. Instead, why not implement these six simple strategies to infuse your bathroom with calmness and warmth, while also elevating the room’s aesthetic appeal?

Embrace Soothing Colour Schemes

Soothing colours don't have to be neutral shades. Think about what colours you find relaxing on a personal level; then incorporate them into the design. You might find soft sage greens particularly soothing as they emulate the natural landscape. If you crave sunshine and clear skies to lift your mood, a soft sunset yellow or sky blue may be the right choice to set the tone for your bathroom’s atmosphere.

Glossy tiles and shiny surfaces within a bathroom might not feel particularly soothing; instead, look to using polished plaster or micro cement to create an organic, natural backdrop.

If you do want to use tiles, look towards high-quality porcelain stoneware tiles that mimic the look of natural stone. These types of tiles emulate the harmonious and raw beauty of natural materials but are incredibly durable and non-porous.

Layered Lighting for Ambiance

Just like how the central ceiling light is the least relaxing form of lighting within a living room, the same can be found in a bathroom. Instead of relying on ceiling spotlights and candles, look to integrate more atmospheric lighting in other areas.

You can now purchase chargeable or battery-operated wall lights that are IP-rated for a space that contains water, where no electrical point needs to be chased into the wall itself. Portable lamps are also great in bathrooms to provide a relaxing ambience that ranges from bright and energising, to soft and serene.

A Natural Touch with Plants

Incorporating greenery into your bathroom does more than simply add a splash of colour, it also breathes life into space. Make sure to select species that thrive well in high humidity and low light (such as compact ferns) that excel at purifying the air, while also adding a tranquillity to the room. If plants aren’t your thing, a small bud vase of seasonal blooms placed on the sink will look inviting and add charm.

Switch Your Tired, Old Shower Curtain for a Gorgeous New One

Simply swapping an outdated shower curtain with a new one will instantly revitalise the space, making it feel cleaner and fresher and in turn, more inviting.

For those on the hunt for something unique, take a look through the vast selection of wayfair shower curtains and liners, offering a wide variety to suit any decor theme.

Invest in Luxurious New Bath Linens

Stepping out of the shower or bath into a plush, high-quality towel transforms a regular bathing routine into a luxe spa experience. Just like the feel of fresh bed sheets, wrapping yourself in a new, soft towel creates a level of comfort and cosiness that is unmatched.

Go for towels that feel plump and are highly absorbent. You can choose a colour to match your decor, but nothing beats a crisp, pure brilliant white towel like you’d find in a high-end hotel.

Infuse an Aromatic Escape through Scent

Transform your bathroom into a fragrant haven with the strategic use of scent. Combine scented candles with fragrant bath salts and oils, along with organic reed diffusers and linen sprays for your new towels. The natural fragrance of lavender or eucalyptus is particularly soothing and works well in a bathroom. To elevate the aesthetic, transport your salts or shower gels into glass jars with name tags to eradicate ugly plastic bottles and containers from your serene bathroom.
