Creative Christmas: DIY Home Decor Ideas, Crafts & Inspiration

With one week to go until Christmas, I thought I would share my DIY home Christmas decor for 2024, here on the blog!

After last year’s bow tree went viral, I didn’t think my tree this year would be so popular. However, it’s currently at 10k likes on Instagram! Rather than bows, this year, I decided to use all the leftover ribbon from last year and wrap the tree up like a maypole. I wound them all around the tree; especially enjoying the introduction of purple - not usually a traditional Christmas colour - to the mix. The tree was finished off with dried orange slice garlands and some of the paper bells and paper tree decorations that I made in November.

Rather than create a Christmas fireplace mantel, this year, I hung the stripy fabric bows and swags I hand-made instead and adorned the top of the mantel with candles and ceramic gingerbread houses that I purchased in Sostrene Grene.

This year’s door wreath was inspired by this rusty red ribbon that I purchased. I used lots of berries, red eucalyptus and thistles to create a pink door wreath that worked well with the soft green colour that I painted the front door earlier in the year.

I decided to bring back the door arch this year, but do it on a budget! I used the wooden door arch frame I constructed a few years ago and cut down a half-price Christmas tree before stapling on all the branches. The large shatterproof baubles were left over from some previous Christmas tree styling work, which I attached with floristry wire.

As I redecorated my hallway at the start of the year, I had this new orange pendant light by David Hunt Lighting to play with this Christmas. I hung vintage baubles with colourful ribbons on each arm and I love the effect. I am going to do this again next year using more ribbon and lots more baubles!

This is now my last post of the year, so I want to thank all my readers for following along and engaging with my content.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
