How To Create a Cosy and Luxury Bedroom

Colaborative Partner Post

Your bedroom is the one place in your home where you should always feel at peace and instantly calm and comfortable as soon as you step into the room. However, finding the balance between creating a practical space and a cosy one isn’t always easy.

If you’re looking for tips on how to create a cosy atmosphere with luxurious practicalities, here are seven simple ideas to get you started:

Consider the right flooring

You’ll want something cosy underfoot for when you step out of bed. A high-pile carpet for a bedroom is ideal, but large-scale rugs that slot under the bed and reach close to the skirting boards work just as well. Carpets or rugs made from wool or synthetic alternatives provide warmth underfoot, while you should avoid harder-wearing materials such as jute or seagrass that can be scratchy and too firm (these flooring materials are better suited to high-traffic areas such as hallways).

In addition, carpets and rugs provide a great sound barrier and block the impact of the sound of footsteps in any room directly below. If you are renting, laying down a floor-covering rug also protects hardwood flooring from any damage (such as heavy items being accidentally dropped on the floor).

Bed

The bed is the key focal point within a bedroom; as well as being comfortable and giving you the best night’s sleep possible, it should also look luxurious and inviting. The bed you choose should be an investment as you spend half of your life within it. If it provides you with aches or pains each morning, or you just do not enjoy getting into it at night, it might be time to upgrade it. With this in mind, choosing a bed that is built to your specifications is always the best idea. Consider Emperor Beds which are exquisitely designed and come with practical storage options.

Think about the headboard of your bed - if it is hard then consider investing in some extra large pillow cushions to soften the look. With a variety of bed sizes out there, make sure that the bed cushions stretch the full length of the headboard without too much of a large gap in between them.

Lighting

There should always be a number of lighting options within a bedroom. This includes task lighting for activities such as getting dressed, dimmable lamps for creating a relaxing atmosphere and reading lights for being able to flick through a book before you go to sleep.

Colour Palette

Bedrooms allow you to play around with colours depending on what mood you want to create within the space. If you want a chic, relaxing, hotel-luxe look, go for warm shades of brown or grey-based blues. Grasscloth wallpaper also works well to add texture and warmth and makes a bedroom feel more like a 4-star hotel.

If you want to wake up fresh and revitalised, a crisp, light, neutral bedroom might be for you. Avoid harsh, pure brilliant whites that might be too blinding for a bedroom and opt instead for off-white or warm white shades which have more depth.

Little Luxuries

There are tons of ways that you can make your bedroom look and feel more snug with those little luxuries. Layer your bed with thick bedspreads, soft throws and bolster cushions to elevate it. Keep a pillow spray beside your bed to freshen your sheets each evening and invest in a good quality diffuser that releases your favourite essential oils around the room. Lavender is a great choice for inducing calm before sleep.

Declutter

Keep your bedroom free from as much clutter as possible by investing in clever storage solutions. Cosmetic caddies will compartmentalise vanity products, while you can never undervalue the extra space under bed baskets and compression bags can give you (these are perfect for storing away towels and bedsheets).

Add Plants or bud vases of flowers

Small potted plants can bring a sense of calm into the room; they can also help to improve the air quality (so you know you can breathe well as you sleep). A small bud vase containing a single flower stem is a great way to add fresh flowers to a bedside table without taking up too much space.
