Christmas Decor Trend: Doorscaping!
Every year on Instagram there is always a new Christmas decor trend: paper honeycomb balls adorning staircases, elaborate fireplace mantels (I’m guilty as charged with this one), the fabric IKEA wall-hanging Xmas tree. This year, the trend for ‘doorscaping’ (the elaborate dressing of an exterior entrance) is definitely a ‘thing’, so I thought I would give it a go myself!
As I couldn’t secure any foliage to my door surround, I built a frame using treated wood, then added supportive feet. I also used cable ties around the wood and attached them to the railings on either side of the stairs. I screwed plastic pots containing water onto the frame and staple gunned chicken wire for floral support, then covered all the wood in fresh pine, conifer, sparkling asparagus fern and bleached Ruscus. To finish off, I hung baubles and navy blue bows with floristry wire.
It was quite a lot of work and it took me two days to complete, but I absolutely love it! It’s very ‘extra’, but Christmas is a great excuse to go over the top!
Below, I have featured a selection of doorscapes that I adore. Natural foliage really does look fabulous, but if you want to do something simpler, artificial garlands wrapped in fairy lights are also really effective!
